Pump labels aren't always correct

A recent study conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency showed that while more than 90 percent of the on-road diesel fuel is in compliance with the ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) standard, there are still many pumps that are not labeled correctly or not labeled at all.

For 2007-compliant engines that require ULSD fuel, the mis- and non-labeled pumps cause a problem.  The EPA is stepping up its efforts to ensure all pumps are tagged correctly. In fact, the agency has issued 150 notices of violations with proposed penalties ranging from $500 to $1,000 for fuel providers that failed the labeling test.
