No Relief in Sight for Diesel Prices

1/24/08
There's no relief in sight for diesel fuel prices, with the Department of Energy earlier this month saying diesel fuel prices will likely continue to hover at about $3.40 into the spring months.  They predict prices may decline slightly after that.

For some trucking companies, expenses for diesel have actually been higher than driver wages on their payrolls.

For the third week of January, the average price of on-highway diesel fuel prices, which includes both low and ultra-low sulfur and other types of diesels, was $3.27, down about five cents from the prior week but still a whopping 84 cents per gallon higher than it was one year ago.

The highest recorded prices for the week were along the East Coast, where the coastal average was $3.343.  More specifically, the New England region prices were $3.594, the Central Atlantic region averaged $3.472, and the Lower Atlantic averaged $3.264.

The lowest prices were recorded in the Gulf Coast region where the per gallon price averaged $3.222.

In other regions, prices were as follows: Midwest, $3.228; Rocky Mountain, $3.229; and the West Coast, $3.327. In the California subset of the West Coast, the average price was $3.360.
